A downloadable game

Text adventures seem like a thing of the past.  In the early days of the ZX Spectrum they were all the rage and we enjoyed a series of games, Adventure A,B,C and D.  Whilst I was most partial to a bit of Adventure C 'Ship of Doom', I have traveled back in time to look at some of the others.  As a side project to some of my other fun I've remade Adventure A with the following goals in mind:

  1. Correct some of the criticisms of the writing.
  2. Not all in CAPITALS.
  3. Target obscure retro platforms.
  4. Learn a little about how adventure games could be put together.
  5. Experiment with ChatCPT.

The original game was criticized for poor usage of apostrophes and all CAPS.  The capital letter problem is likely due to the original platforms it was released on.  Anyway, because I don't want to copy the original game completely I have re-authored all text in the game.  The fact it is a remake more than an exact copy is why it's not called Planet of Death.

ChatCPT was called in to help author these improved descriptions.  Therein lies an underlying technology goal of this project, I do have Ai related plans and I need a simple adventure game to experiment with (you can complete the original in 50 turns according to the three minute video on youtube)..  That's for the future though.

The original wasn't a great adventure game.  Despite addressing the criticisms, there is almost no value in me building my project for the platforms it was already released on.  Go play the original.  This is why this is targeting only the more obscure platforms.

I did this during some time off.  But for the need to have a very small adventure game for my AI work, this isn't really an ongoing project.  As such, I don't intend a lot of updates and maintenance anyway, but really the only thing to do is finalize the save/load on the Aquarius version (it's disabled for now due to issues calling the cassette save/load subroutines directly from machine code on an emulator - I need to test it on real hardware before I re-enable).

Nevertheless, it works and I know some of the Aquarius and CPM enthusiasts will appreciate new software, regardless of what it is.

Thank you for the C128 CP/M version. I hope your studies lead to some more experiments.

Awesome, thanks for letting me know.
